Today was a chance for the team to relax and develop deeper relationships with each other. Breakfast was later today which put everyone in a happy mood before our long drive to the Poas volcano. We immediately noticed a drop in temperature when we arrived at the beautiful landmark and quickly donned sweatshirts and jackets. We all grabbed a helmet before watching a safety video about the volcano and hiking the half mile up to the lookout point. Expecting to see a gorgeous view of the active crater, the team was disappointed to be met with a wall of fog and mist at its peak. This did not stop us, however, from taking pictures and playing games at the lookout while we waited for the clouds to clear. In the end we only glimpsed the crater as the fog lifted slightly. Everyone had fun in the gift shop ordering treats and sharing stories. Truly a once in a lifetime experience.
After the volcano, the team traveled to La Paz. We ate a delicious lunch before trekking into the rainy gardens. There was a butterfly garden in which we stopped first. It was a beautiful greenhouse with many butterflies flying around the flowers and even landing on some of our team members! Next, we saw a large number of colorful birds. We even got to hang around the hummingbird garden and watch the tiny birds. There were sloths and monkeys to watch as well. Our team saw big cats, cows, frogs, and snakes along the journey as well. Then, we grabbed our rain ponchos and headed along the trail towards the waterfalls. The first waterfall the team saw was huge! All the water was gushing along with a great force, but because of the recent rain (and lots of mud and dirt getting thrown around) the water was brown. Once again, we were not phased by the obstruction and continued to be in awe of God's creation. There were quite a few waterfalls for us to see but because of the rain and tight schedule, there was not a lot of time to sit and watch- we had to keep moving. After what seemed like a million miles of stairs, we finally reached the transportation that carried us back to the entrance. Overall, today was a beautiful day full of crazy pictures and amazing new memories with our team.
It was announced during our Bible study time that tomorrow we would be conducting several VBS sessions at an elementary school and another local church! The team is very excited to one last very full day of ministry! Please pray for open hearts as we share the Gospel with these children and their families!
