After loading up the bus in the morning, we hopped on and began the drive to an elementary school in a neighboring town. Once we arrived, the team unloaded all the games and snacks we had planned for the day. Kids began trickling in, and the first session started! All the team members were a tad nervous, but we all warmed up to the group very quickly. We started with a group of younger kids (about kindergarten age). The VBS session was full of fun dances and songs. We also played fun games that had everybody laughing and smiling! As the day went on, we met some older students and did similar activities. We even added crafts and a Bible story into the schedule. Joanna, Moira, Gladys, and Maddy all helped read the story of Shadrac, Meshac, and Abednego to the Ticos. The students all listened very well, and we all got to share some slushy-like treats. The school day ended in smiles, laughs, and lots and lots of hugs.
On the way to the schools, Senorita mentioned that she needed 2 students to go with Mau (a leader we work with) to a high school and invite them to the outreach we are doing on Sunday. Justin and Maddy jumped on the opportunity. We got to the school and dropped off everyone then Justin and Maddy stayed in the bus to go to the high school. They first went to pick up pastor Jonathan from his house and saw pretty houses, views, and many animals walking around the streets. When they got there pastor John went to talk with the teachers to make sure it was ok that we talked to the students. After we got the all good we walked out and gathered all the students into a classroom. There were about 40 middle school students. Mau and Pastor John talked a little bit about what the team would be doing at Thursday's outreach. After sharing, we past out cards with information about the outreach.
In the way back to the camp, the team enjoyed a stop at the legendary ice cream shop Po
