The team returned to Barranca for another day of ministry in the local school! The activities for the day were very similar to Day 2, but the team had a new energy and confidence after the success from yesterday's time of ministry.
When we arrived at the school we recognized some familiar faces. It was very encouraging to know that the kids felt welcome and were willing to come back with friends. Energetic games at the beginning of each session allowed our team to interact personally with different people and start building relationships. It was fun to watch eyes light up as kids recognized the questions we asked during surveys and raced to be the first ones to answer. There were different levels of interaction today, which was similar to yesterday, but overall the kids had good attitudes and were willing to participate in the activities we had planned.
Our musical drama, "Creere," continues to improve every time we perform, and seeing the different reactions from the kids is so exciting. It definitely helps to relieve the initial nerves of doing something that seems so different from how the gospel is typically presented in the US. As the team passed out tracts to the students and read through the gospel account, the leaders sent up continuous prayer for every student's heart to be softened and ready to accept what was presented. This undoubtedly gave confidence to the team members as they encouraged the ticos to read and understand the love of Jesus Christ.
Some highlights from today were an epic game of ninja and learning the Costa Rican version of red rover during our lunch break. After leaving the Barranca school district, the team found themselves at a local store to buy local snacks and a large supply of coffee for family and friends back home before returning to camp for a delicious dinner. Our team meeting consisted of a devotion from Pastor LaMar about the importance of pouring into others and not hoarding the teaching of God's word to ourselves. He used the example of the Sea of Galilee having many river outlets which helps to keep it healthy whereas the Dead Sea only receives water from the Jordan River keeping it quite literally dead.
Please pray for physical health, as we have had some coughs, sneezes, and sore throats. Pray for energy and stamina as we head into our third day of in-school ministry. Finally, pray that God will use the team to express the Gospel message clearly, and that the student' hearts will be open to receiving the Gospel.
