The Meetings Begin!

The team hit the ground running on day one of ESM week! The day started off with prayer and worship, a great reminder that Christ and his mission are the sole focus in everything we do on this trip! Team members got to know fun facts about each other by playing a couple of icebreaker games. Devotions for the team will focus on the topic of discipleship. The team members will be reflecting on what it means to be a “follower” of Christ and what that will cost us in this world. Matthew 10:16-22 makes it clear that it will not always be easy!

The team is reading Sarah A Lanier’s Foreign to Familiar to understand the differences among cultures. The students also had the opportunity to discuss what short-term missions should and should not look like. Using a quiz, the team spent time discussing the background information and the culture of Costa Rica. The team is also reading the book Hudson Taylor: Deep in the Heart of China. Today the team worked on reading and discussing the first two chapters.

After lunch, the team spent more time in worship as well as preparing fun games and songs to hopefully take into the schools. Continue to pray as the team prepares during the ESM Week! Please pray for the preparations as activities are put together. Also, please begin praying for the hearts and minds of those who will hear the gospel this June!
