What were our impressions of this country the size of West Virginia and with the name “Rich Coast”?

Here is what some of our students and teachers shared:

Isaac Crawford:  “The food is to die for. Not much of the food here is processed, especially the food that we have had the luxury of getting to eat.”

Victoria:  “The fruit is WONDERFUL!! But [the weather] so hot...whenever i walk outside i feel like i've been hit in the face with a wet mop.”

Emily:  “I love the laid-back culture where [people] are so welcoming to anyone and also so very patient when you try to speak to them.”

Jacob Honnold made three good points:  (1) Costa Rican gallo pinto is top-tier (I had it every day whilst in Limon). (2)  “The piña was also very good (piña = pineapple). (3) “It is a steamy climate in Limon, but with the AC and lots of water, it isn't so bad.”

Profe CynTIA:  “I agree with Jacob; I love gallo pinto. It’s my absolute favorite, and I, too, had it every day on this trip.  Gallo Pinto means “spotted rooster,” and is the traditional breakfast dish here in Costa RIca.  It is created with day-old white rice, fried onions and peppers, Lizano sauce, and either black or red beans.  We eat it with a dollop of natilla (similar to sour cream), eggs, and fried cheese.  Yes, they have a cheese that they actually fry.”

Jacob Hollins:  “Culture is awesome. I love the beautiful landscape, and the jungle is awesome because it has so many fascinating creatures in it. Food is pretty good: lots of rice. I love Limón, and I wish I could visit all the other "states" in Costa Rica. I feel like I've just scratched the surface.”

Genesis:  The ticos (the Costa Rican’s nickname for themselves) are super friendly and relationship-focused, and all the fruit is 100 times better than the fruit in Ohio! There are so many different plants, too, and even some that close when you run your finger up the spine of them, which is amazing! I really enjoyed my time here and I'm going to miss it a lot :(

Profe Clements:  “The typical food we were served by the church ladies was different from typical Costa Rican food, and it was delicious. There was definitely a more Caribbean "flavor" to it. And nothing stops because of rain!”

Faith:  “Limón, Costa Rica, is the hottest place I’ve ever been in my entire life!! Our team motto being ‘we are flexible’ was so perfect because there were countless times when the unexpected happened or the heat just got to us, but the Lord gave us patience and love for one another, and that allowed us to have an amazing time!”

Thank you for all your prayers for our team.  We appreciated the fact that several (5) of us had been to Costa Rica before, but this time was extra special and different because we went to an entirely different part of the country than we had before.
